If he is right, then why is the world population growing so quickly? Why do we have actual witnesses like Malala, telling us about the miserable situation in Afghanistan when it comes to educating girls? Why would we doubt that the situation for girls is as bad in many other countries?
Hans is talking big picture, overall. World population growth is actually slowing dramatically. Yes, in some Muslim countries women have a harder time getting an education. But if you compare to the past, it's getting better.
Which, in case you missed the point, is exactly what he is saying. Unfortunately the few rich media owners know full well that good news doesn't sell papers or air time so they concentrate on the bad news ie. the ugly shoe that Hans is wearing (dodged the apostrophe there) as opposed to Hans as a whole person.
Off topic (can't find a butterfly related post so quickly) ... but you might like to listen to this program on monarch butterflies and its colonisation of Australia: http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/offtrack/flying-weeds-how-the-monarch-butterfly-colonised-australia/6768228
Thank you, Dr. Mieke - I'll include the link in a future post. (p.s. to find topical material in the blog, the quickest way is to use the "categories" in the right sidebar). :.)
